Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS

The Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, with its three sites in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia), covers the field of high-performance ceramic from the basic initial research to the application in its entirety.  The range of services comprises the application-focussed development of ceramic high-performance material, industry-related powder-technological manufacturing methods and prototypal parts. The diagnostic material branch of the institute, proceeded in January 2014 by the Dresden site of the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-destructive Testing, extended the research portfolio to the topics of material diagnoses and exams.

In addition, in the field of functionalisable bioceramics for bridges, crowns, dental and endoprothetic implants respectively, the bioinerten and biocompatable combined systems also suit specifically therapeutic and diagnostic acutators as well as Multi-Sensor arrays for stimulative, suppressive and monitoring purposes, focussing on extensive research activities.

Functional, adjustable ceramic nanofiltration membranes developed and produced at Fraunhofer IKTS are used in diagnostic and detectable micro-systems.  It is already used in the development of biophysical and biochemical separation models for sample preparation and enhancement of sample components (cells, bacteria, protein, toxins, etc.).
