QEID-POC develops a rapid point-of-care system for distinguishing bacterial from viral infections. The platform quantifies inflammation markers to guide therapy decisions and reduce unnecessary antibiotic use. Integrating molecular and immunological detection methods, it delivers reliable results outside centralized labs, enabling faster patient management and supporting antimicrobial stewardship.

These tests should enable differentiation between viral and bacterial infections and help to avoid the unnecessary use of antibiotics. There are also plans to develop specific tests for the markers CRP, PCT and neopterin, which do not require laboratory equipment and deliver results within 15 minutes. The project supports the research campus's agenda by providing advanced, cost-effective diagnostic tools.
