EVBC: Founding and First Meeting in Jena

The kick-off meeting of the European Virus Bioinformatics Center (EVBC) will take place in Jena from 6 to 8 March. The EVBC will bring together bioinformatics and virologists from all over Europe, thereby advancing the discovery and research of previously unknown viruses using modern bioinformatics methods.

Most of today's bioinformatics is still focussed on bacteria and eukaryotic model organisms, while at the same time there is an urgent need for bioinformatics in the field of virology.

With the founding of the European Virus Bioinformatics Center (EVBC) during the first EVBC meeting, excellent European research from virology and bioinformatics will be brought together: scientists from more than 10 European countries will exchange from 6th to 8th March 2017 In Jena on the interfaces between the two disciplines.

The EVBC will also become a partner of the InfectoGnostics research campus and thus expand the field of infection research at the campus with new projects on viral pathogens.
