This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the core principles of the OpenUC2 modular optics system, starting with a single cube as a simple magnifying glass, mirror or camera. Building on this knowledge, participants explore the coreBOX to construct a functional smartphone-based microscope from scratch.
We will then move over to adapting a standard brightfield microscope into a multi-colour fluorescence system using the novel openUC2 FRAME (Fast Rigid Automated Microscope Engine) platform. Along the way, attendees learn why open-source matters in scientific instrumentation and how modular software architectures can be combined to create autonomous lab automation for their workflows.
